Keep the jurisdiction and project stage clear
Record where the building is located, how it is used and what work is proposed. Advice about a different state, an earlier project or a historical regulatory change should not be treated as a current requirement for your building.
Bring the relevant records together
Start with plans, existing fire safety documents, consultant reports and correspondence from the relevant authority or certifier. Record dates and revisions so the team can distinguish current instructions from superseded information.

Confirm the people and the deliverables
Identify who will design, assess, review, certify and install each part of the work. Required qualifications and authorisations should be confirmed for the person, service and jurisdiction.
